Why Jam Seri

What makes working with us a straightforward experience

We don't promise things we can't deliver. What we can offer is careful work, honest communication, and a workspace where your watch is treated with the same attention you'd want for it.

What You Can Expect

Six things that define how we work

Assessment First, Always

Before anything is touched, we write down what we find. You see the condition note before we begin. No assumptions are made, no work done without your knowledge.

Pricing Discussed Upfront

Each service has a starting price. If the work turns out to be more involved, we discuss it with you before proceeding. You won't be surprised at collection.

Careful Work, Not Fast Work

We work at the pace the watch requires. Rushing a seal job or a movement clean introduces risk. We'd rather take an extra day and do it properly.

Sensible Turnaround Times

Simple services are returned within a few days. Full overhauls take longer and we'll give you a realistic estimate. No indefinite waiting without updates.

Conservative With Vintage Pieces

Older movements are handled with extra restraint. We preserve what makes them original rather than standardising toward a modern specification.

Water-Resistance Verified

After seal work, suitable watches are tested using proper pressure equipment. A check that takes a few minutes but matters every time the watch gets wet.

Expertise

Years of hands-on watchwork

The person working on your watch has spent years doing exactly this. Not as a sideline, not as a general repair shop that also takes watches. Watchwork is what we do here, and the depth of that focus shows in how we approach each piece.

Mechanical movements, quartz calibres, vintage pieces with worn keyless works — we've dealt with most of what walks through the door. When we haven't, we say so.

  • Quartz and mechanical movements both serviced
  • Vintage pieces handled with appropriate conservatism
  • Crystal work — repolish or replacement, case protected
  • Water-resistance testing after seal work
  • Honest about what we can and cannot do
  • Pressure testing equipment for water-resistance checks
  • Appropriate masking materials for crystal work
  • Dedicated cleaning process for movement parts
  • Period-correct lubricants where applicable

Tools & Method

The right tools for the work

Watchwork done well relies on using proper equipment. We use dedicated testing tools for water resistance, appropriate lubricants for different movement types, and masking materials that protect case surfaces during crystal work.

We don't improvise on fundamentals. The method is consistent because consistency is what produces reliable results.

Customer Experience

A shop where you can ask questions

Some people want to leave a watch and come back later. Others have questions about what's involved or what to expect. Both are fine. We're not in a hurry to end the conversation.

Walk-ins are welcome. If you'd prefer to discuss the work first by phone or email, that's equally welcome. There's no script here — just a straight conversation about what the watch needs.

  • Walk-ins welcome during opening hours
  • Phone and email enquiries answered personally
  • No pressure to proceed after assessment
  • Updates provided if anything changes mid-work
  • Central Johor Bahru location, easy to reach

What Sets Us Apart

The things that are distinctly ours

The Condition Note System

Every watch that enters the workshop gets a handwritten or typed condition summary before any tool is picked up. It records what we see, what we propose, and the estimated cost. You receive a copy. This is not standard practice in most repair shops — it is standard practice here.

Care Note Panel for Customers

When we return a watch, we include plain-language notes on how to look after it — when to avoid water, how to wind a manual movement without damaging the stem, what to watch for if the regulation starts to drift. Practical information, not marketing material.

We Will Turn Work Away

If a watch arrives with damage beyond what we're confident handling — or if we believe the cost of repair outweighs its practical value — we say so. We'd rather tell you that honestly than take your money for a job that won't satisfy either of us.

A Fixed, Accessible Location

We're on Jalan Wong Ah Fook in central Johor Bahru — a location that hasn't changed and isn't planned to. You can walk in, come back again, and know exactly where to find us. That kind of continuity matters in a craft-based business.
